OSBA 2018 Plant Portraits Exhibit

In conjunction with the worldwide botanical art community's initiative to celebrate plant diversity, members of the Ottawa Society of Botanical Art (OSBA) will present the 2018 Plant Portraits Exhibit at the Canada Museum of Agriculture and Food (Central Experimental Farm). The Exhibit will run from May 18 to October 31, 2018 in the Learning Centre. Artists have been working diligently to capture the beauty of native plants and look forward to the opportunity to share their artistic vision. Further details on this exhibit will follow.

Field Trip on Monday, June 12, 2017

Members of the Ottawa Society of Botanical Artists are invited to participate in a field trip to the Beaux Arbres Plantes Indigènes/NativePlant Nursery in Bristol, Quebec.  This nursery is located about one hour northwest of Ottawa in the beautiful Pontiac area of the Outaouais region.  The nursery specializes in plants native to the Ottawa Valley and garden-worthy wildflowers from eastern North America.  We will enjoy a tour of the garden as well as an opportunity to sketch the native plants.

April 10 General Meeting Presentation on Photographing Art


Doris Lamontagne will demonstrate photographing visual art and will discuss how to present a polished product. Members will learn about the equipment and techniques Doris uses to photograph and process the images for the best results. In addition to the demonstration, the presentation will include a slideshow as well as a question and answer session. City of Ottawa Archives Gallery 112 Exhibition

Artists and volunteers met at the conclusion of our successful exhibition at the City of Ottawa Archives Gallery 112. The exhibit was well received by the visiting public and artists appreciated the opportunity to show their work in this wonderful public gallery. Worldwide Exhibition 2018

Linking People to Plants through Contemporary Botanical Art
Opening May 2018

Botanical Artists from around the world will be celebrating the earth’s precious plant diversity by creating exhibitions featuring plants indigenous to their home regions.  A primary goal of this initiative is to link people around the world to plants through contemporary botanical art. This project was initiated by the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) Botanical Art Worldwide Exhibition 2018. Countries participating in this event include: Australia; Bermuda; Brazil; Canada; Chile; Costa Rica; France; Germany; India; Italy; Ireland; Japan; the Netherlands; South Africa; New Zealand; Thailand; South Korea; the United Kingdom; and the United Sates of America.

The Art of the Plant Exhibition is Canada’s contribution to this simultaneous worldwide botanical art project. This exhibition opens in May 2018 in Ottawa and online in coordination with other participating countries around the globe.
